Prayer Partner Ministry – Would you want to become a Prayer Partner? Contact Jill Lemke (814-769-9022) or sign up on the sheet on the narthex table. The involvement can be as minimal as keeping each other in daily prayers or as much as you like (calling, getting together for meals, etc.). Partners will be paired by Jill Lemke and Linda Muthler. The idea is to encourage new friendships and to have an extra person who keeps you in mind, who cares how you are doing. You do not have to leave your home to participate. “Wherever two or more are gathered, I am there.” — Jesus.
Lutheran Day at the Altoona Curve —Lutheran Day at the Altoona Curve and the Allegheny Tailgate will be Sunday, August 5, 2018. More information and registration forms are on the table in the narthex.
Our Synod Global Ministries Team is sponsoring a Flood Bucket activity to assist those who are affected by flooding in our Synod or surrounding areas. The buckets will be housed at a local congregation in each conference for the local need and can be easily accessible to other areas if needed. There is no set limit to the number of Flood Buckets that can be prepared. The team is asking that each participating Congregation try to fill the provided flood bucket. A list of needed items is on the table by the bucket to the left of where the bulletins are placed.
ALLEGHENY SYNOD YEAR OF PRAYER 2018 JULY–YOUTH AND YOUNG PEOPLE
“Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
Pray for safe travel for those traveling to the National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas. Pray for young people as they seek to do God’s will in their lives and communities; for those preparing for college; for those who are discerning career paths and educational opportunities. Pray for the work of the Synod’s Youth Advisory Board as they plan a Synod youth event. How is the Holy Spirit calling you to guide and support youth and young people in your congregation and community?
Allegheny Synod Lutheran Fall Festival: An afternoon of fellowship and worship will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg from 3 PM – 7:30 PM. Starting at 3 PM we will have booths set up by congregations, vendors, and partners. These will include food stations, games, information, arts and crafts, and other activities. Throughout the afternoon we will welcome musical entertainment from members of our Synod and our Synod congregations. Starting at 5 PM we will have a community meal. We are planning to have pulled pork and pulled chicken provided by Holland Bros. of Duncansville. Tickets for the meal are $10 and are available through our Synod Office. At 6:30 PM we will have worship in the Pavilion at the park. Part of the service will be a candlelight service. We are moving to the pavilions this year because we will have lights in case the evening gets dark before we are finished. Also we will be under cover in the case of inclement weather. We would like to invite congregations to bring congregational banners to decorate our worship space. If you would be able to bring a banner with you, please let Pastor Paula or Bishop Rhyne know.
