Every week: Sunday school for kindergarten to sixth grade at 9:30 AM.  All children are welcome. If you know of a child that could become a part of this group, please let Pastor Paul know or call the church office at 237-2081.

October worship volunteers are needed for worship for all worship services in October, especially October 7.  The bright orange signup sheet is on the narthex table. Thank you in advance for serving.

Blessings of Animals: Sunday, October 7, during worship. All household animals sociable with other animals and humans are welcome to attend; or pictures of any animals may be used to do the blessing.

Community youth will meet this afternoon from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Lions Club.

Cemetery Team meets Tuesday, September 25, at 7:00 PM in the conference room.

Fellowship Sunday is September 30 following worship. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. This is also an opportunity to formally welcome our new musicians, Jim Rearick, Organist, and Michelle McMullen, Pianist.

Leftover items: There are still a few boxes of items leftover from the rummage sale to be taken to St. Vincent, etc. Please consider taking a box or two and dropping it off during the week.  Many hands make light work.

Please remember to bring food items for the State College Food Bank. The collection box is in the narthex.  A good way to remember is to always bring your donations on the day we have fellowship.  So far this year St. Paul has donated 273 pounds of food.

This week we join with the congregations of the Allegheny Synod in prayer for the Olanta.  Lutheran Church in Olanta.

Next PGM Small Area Planning group will meet here at St. Paul on October 3. Time to be announced.

Blood Drive will be held on Thursday, October 4, from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Dyslexia Center Fundraiser to be held in Rohrbaugh Hall on Saturday, October 6, starting at 6:00 PM following the October Harvest Fest.  See Sally Kolesar for details.

October Harvest Fest is Saturday, October 6, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  A list of snacks needed to help provide hospitality for vendors and help is located on the narthex table You can also talk with Linda Muthler and Judy Wills. God’s Work. Our Hands is a part of the Harvest Fest this year with the congregation invited to help in several ways as part of our service to the community. Talk with Sally Kolesar or any member of the Harvest Fest team.

Bonnie McMiniment is now the new ALSM Auxiliary representative for St. Paul. Thank you Bonnie for taking on this responsibility.  Thank you to Marilyn Niemann for your service for ALSM.

 WELCA is planning a re-organizational meeting on Sunday, October 7 following the church service.  Choir members are encouraged to attend following choir rehearsal. A brunch casserole will be provided.  Please bring a side dish to share, but it is not required.  We will welcome new ideas for activities and discussions.

WELCA is planning a Soup Sale during fellowship on October 21 to benefit the roof fund. The proceeds will be donated in memory of Mel Mehalick. Please bring your own containers.

CROP Hunger Walk is six weeks from today; we will gather with others in our community to fight hunger both here and around the world.  We need walkers and sponsors for the State College CROP Hunger Walk on October 21. Please see Michelle McMullen for more details and to sign up to be a walker, a sponsor, or both. You may also call or text Michelle at 412-965-1694. or email mmcmullen273@gmail.com. Thanks for helping feed the hungry both in our community and throughout the world.

Stewardship Snippet — Sept. 23, 2018

James 4:1, 2 – Those conflicts and disputes among you … do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts.  James puts his finger on the pulse of human misery. We drive ourselves crazy by craving the things we don’t have and envying those who have more than we do! Spiritual maturity and practicing steward/discipleship help bring us sanity.

ALLEGHENY SYNOD YEAR OF PRAYER FOR SEPTEMBER, 2018–OUR LEADERS

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.”  1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Pray for our pastors, deacons, seminarians, and lay worship leaders as they lead your congregation. Pray for rest and renewal; for a deepening sense of call and mission. Pray for your Bishop and his staff. Pray for those entering the ELCA assignment process to receive a call and for seminarians who are preparing for Endorsement or Approval interviews.

OVER THE EDGE

We’re rappelling off a 12-story building in downtown State College to raise $80,000 to help low-income families in Centre County.  And we won’t get there without you. We need your support!

What can you do?

  • Go Over The Edge: Are you a thrill-seeker? No rappelling OR fundraising experience needed! We have about 20 spots left for Brave Souls to rappel on October 11.
  • Support an Edger: If you go to our event page and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see a list of all the people signed up to rappel. Anyone who is not at $1000 in donations might not get to go without your support. Click on their name and make a donation–every dollar helps!
