Allegheny Synod Year of Prayer 2018—March—Those in need—

Pray for those who find themselves in need:

the unemployed, the hungry, the sick,

those in life transitions such as divorce or the loss of a loved one,

the homeless, the hurting,  those who are addicted to drugs,

alcohol or other substances,  those who are grieving,

and those whose voices cannot be heard.

35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”—Matthew 25:35-

How is the Holy Spirit calling you to reach out to those in need in your congregation, community, and world?

40,000 CAN CHALLENGE

We are writing to let you know the results of this year’s Allegheny Synod Can Challenge. For 2017-2018 our total was 35,932 items collected. This is a little short of our 40,000 item goal, but still a great effort. This is something we should celebrate. Working together, you are caring for people across seven counties and are touching countless lives.

We can truly rejoice at what God has been doing among us when we realize that over the last four years of the Can Challenge, you have collected 185,444 items for our communities. That is an example of the Holy Spirit using you, the Allegheny Synod, and making a positive difference in this world.

I thank you for being a part of this ministry and for your commitment to helping people in your community. Please continue throughout this year to care for the people of your communities by supporting the feeding ministries in your area.

May God continue to bless and keep you.

SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

The Congregational Council has called for a special congregational meeting for Sunday, March 11 following the worship service.

  • To update the congregation on the progress on rebuilding for mission following the recent flooding of areas of the first floor and basement of the church building and include the congregation in a discussion of any current decisions that may need to be made at that time.
  • To vote on giving the Property Team, under the leadership of Ron Strouse and Joe Homan, permission to make decisions on the project regarding the project that may exceed their annual budget as they feel comfortable doing.
  • To vote on giving the Congregation Council permission to approve larger expenditures that exceed their constitutional limits as needed to complete the project.

All active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church are eligible to vote. Active members are those who have communed and contributed to the church within the past year. If you are not an active member, you will become active by joining us for worship, communing and contributing on the day of the meeting.

We ask you to pray for our congregation, those who are working on this project, and those who are making decisions as the project proceeds.
