Stewardship Snippet: Oct. 7, 2018 (20th Sunday after Pentecost, Year B)

Psalm 8:4, 6 – What are human beings that you [Lord] are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet.

God gives us dominion over God’s creation, which means we’re in charge. But that also means we have a duty to treat the created world respectfully and use its resources responsibly. How do you think we’re doing? As steward-disciples, how can we do better?

 This week we join with the congregations of the Allegheny Synod in prayer for St. Peter Lutheran Church in Petersburg.

 WELCA’s re-organizational meeting is today following the church service.  Choir members are encouraged to attend following choir rehearsal. A brunch casserole will be provided. We will welcome new ideas for activities and discussions.

Worship assistants still needed for October are as follows: October 22:  Greeters, Counters, fellowship host and hostess.  October 28:  Greeters, 1 more Usher, 1 more counter, Cross bearer, Torch bearers. The sign-up sheet is on the narthex table. Please prayerfully consider what you can do to help.

Every week: Sunday school for kindergarten to six grade at 9:30 AM.  All children are welcome. If you know of a child that could become a part of this group, please let Pastor Paul know or call the church office at 237-2081.

Ready to be part of something special? A number of brave Edgers (including our own Morgen Hummel) will have the opportunity to rappel down Hyatt Place/Fraser Centre, in exchange for donations back to the amazing local non-profit organization, Interfaith Human Services Inc. CROP Hunger Walk is three weeks from today. We will gather with others in our community to fight hunger both here and around the world. We need walkers and sponsors for the Sate College CROP Hunger Walk on October 21. Please see Michelle McMullen for more details and to sign- up to be a walker, sponsor, or both.  Reminder: We have a donation box in the narthex for donations to the State College Food Bank.  Since we have a monthly fellowship, bringing your food bank donation on that Sunday is a routine you might want to establish. To find out at the current needs are you can consult the website, www.scfoodbank.org.

Bishop Rhyne invites everyone to the annual Fall Conference Meeting, October 16 at St Mark Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap at 7:00 PM.

WELCA is planning on a Soup Sale during fellowship on October 21 to benefit the roof fund. The proceeds will be donated in memory of Mel Mehalick. Please bring your own containers.

November 4 is All Saints Sunday.  This day we give thanks and remember those family and friends who have passed away during the past year. If there is someone you would like to be added to the list of names to be lifted in remembrance, please notify the church office by Wednesday, October 31.

Special Congregational Meeting, Sunday, November 4 for election of nominees for church council. Watch for further announcements in the weekly bulletin.

An invitation to a SIT AND STROLL TOUR, Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Main Floor; 150 W. Pine Grove Road; Sunday, October 21 at 2:00 PM. of Union Cemetery in Pine Grove Mills.  Friends and neighbors will share obituaries for some of the young folks who are buried in the cemetery, as well as colorful newspaper stories from the 1800s-early 1900s era.  Also featured…an 1800s vocal selection and refreshments using recipes from the same time period. This presentation is based on Pine Grove Mills history and is patterned after Ecclesiastes 3:4…A time to cry; a time to laugh; A time to grieve; A time to dance.in the Holy Bible.
