Elizabeth Fink-Perez’s 90th Birthday! We are creating a surprise video montage (or “Tribute”) for Elizabeth Fink-Perez to celebrate her upcoming 90th birthday on October 14. It is very easy to make and submit a video (you can record your own video on your phone and upload it or easily make a recording right on the Tribute site). The video can be seconds long just to say hello, or as long as you would like to express your sentiment or a special memory you mig  ht have of Mom. You can even sing happy birthday to her if you like. Videos must be submitted by October 8th at:

Help Decorate the Vestibule for Harvest Home! In preparation for Harvest Home Sunday on September 25, we’d like to decorate the vestibule with pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and any other natural or dried materials that will help to create a beautiful fall-themed entryway. Items may be dropped off in the vestibule.

Blessing our Pets and Animals. On Sunday, October 2, our service of worship will include a special blessing of the animals. In preparation for this service, you may put together a sheet of paper with a picture of your pet or favorite animal along with brief information. Your pictures can then be displayed on the glass sanctuary doors prior to the service. You also may bring your pet in person to the service that day if that is manageable.

Upcoming Commemorations:

Michael and All Angels

Thursday, September 29, 2022

Michael the archangel, captain of the heavenly hosts, is remembered on this day along with the other angels and archangels. The word “angel” means messenger, and in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, these beings have a fully spiritual nature and no physical body.

Jerome, translator, teacher, died 420

Friday, September 30, 2022

Jerome was a biblical scholar and translator, but rather than translating the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures into classical Latin, he worked in the commonly-spoken Latin of the day, creating a version called the Vulgate.

Stewardship Snippets:

Luke 16:24-25 — [The rich man] called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.” But Abraham said, “Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony.”

In Jesus’ story, what condemns the rich man to hell is not his wealth, but rather his failure in life to use his money to help poor Lazarus. Does wealth tend to make us ungenerous? Isn’t there a bit of Lazarus in all our hearts? In yours? How can Jesus help?
