August 22 @ St. Paul

Announcements

Secretary office hours have changed- Sundays from 9am-1pm, Mondays from 1pm-4pm, and Fridays from 10am-1pm.

Pastor Paul is available by phone 9AM to 8PM Tuesday through Sunday. Monday is his day off, but otherwise, feel free to give a call or send a text! If he does not pick up right away, leave a message and Pastor will try to get back to you ASAP. His local phone number is 814-325-7571. He is always available 24/7 for emergencies.

We are looking for in-person Ushers, Readers, and Intercessors for the month of August. No experience needed! Readers and intercessors are sent their materials by Saturday to read over, and then can read from the screen or from your paper on Sunday morning. Contact Linda Rosensteel at lindarosensteel@comcast.net or Sally Kolesar at kolesarsally@comcast.net to volunteer!

Grocery Shopping Help – Stacy Pribulka has been kind enough to offer help to any church member in need of grocery shopping help. Deliveries can be made directly to members’ homes and payment for groceries can be made after given the receipt. All that Stacy asks for is at least a days notice. For those who are interested, please contact Stacy at

Upcoming Commemorations:

Bartholomew, Apostle – Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Mentioned as one of Jesus’ disciples in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Bartholomew’s name is replaced in John’s gospel by Nathanael, leading many to believe that the two are different names for the same person. Little is known about his work, though some traditions place him later in India or Armenia.

Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, died 430 – Saturday, August 28, 2021

Augustine was one of the greatest theologians of the Western church. A native of North Africa, he recovered from a debauched young adulthood through the influence of his mother, Monica, and Bishop Ambrose of Milan. Besides writing influential theological books, he served as bishop of Hippo, in present-day Algeria.

Moses the Black, monk, martyr, died around 400 – Saturday, August 28, 2021

Converted from life as a thief and a robber to Christianity, Moses was an Ethiopian who became a desert monk at Skete. The change in his heart and life had a profound impact on his native country. He was murdered when Berber bandits attacked his monastery.

Stewardship Snippets:

John 6:68 – Simon Peter answered Jesus, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

We hear so many voices in our culture luring us to follow by promising us prosperity, power, fun, escape, prestige, etc. But steward disciples know that only Jesus has the words of true life, eternal life. We listen only for Jesus’ words.
