New at St. Paul Lutheran Church — Blessing BoxDo you need a blessing? Do you want to be a blessing?      We now have a blessing box on the church porch to share non-perishable food and household/personal items! Take what you need…leave what you can. Open to all! Please share with your friends and neighbors.   If you have something you would like to donate but can’t get to the church for any reason, please let me Michelle McMullen know (by phone or text 412-965-1694; mmcmullen273@gmail.com) and she will arrange a time to come pick up the items from your church.      Please tell your friends and neighbors about the Blessing Box on our Porch. Anyone is welcome to take what they need and leave what they can. It is like a mini-free library, only with food. This is a way we are helping our community during this hard time

Even though our building is closed for worship and other events for at least the month of March, the financial obligations the church faces continue without pause. Our staff continues to do its work, and we continue to pay them. Other expenses continue. Thus, we are asking you to consider sending your weekly offerings for March to the church. You may send checks, preferably in your offering envelopes to: St. Paul Lutheran Church, PO Box 200, Pine Grove Mills, PA. 16868. You may also give online by going to: https://tithe.ly/give_new/www/#/tithely/give-one-time/387358 . Also, the church has a mail slot at the Pastor’s office to place your offerings.

Stewardship Snippet–April 26, 2020Luke 24:35 – Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread. Sometimes even the most faithful disciples have a tough time seeing Jesus at work in the world. But if we look beyond our own needs and problems we begin to see the Christ all around. May this very real presence inspire us to pay attention and to work for the good of all creation.

CommemorationsCatherine of Siena, theologian, died 1380: Wednesday, April 29, 2020; This theologian was the first woman among Roman Catholics to receive the title “Doctor [teacher] of the Church.” Catherine was a Dominican sister known for her mystical visions as well as her work on behalf of people who were poor and imprisoned.

Philip and James, Apostles: Friday, May 1, 2020–Philip was one of the first disciples of Jesus, and called Nathanael to “come and see.” He later responded to an Ethiopian official’s request for teaching and baptism. Little is known of James, the son of Alphaeus, called “the Less” to distinguish him from another apostle named James.

Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria, died 373: Saturday, May 2, 2020–Best remembered for defending the teaching that Christ was fully God against those who taught otherwise, Athanasius was an influential church leader around the time of the Council of Nicea. He was banished from Alexandria five times for his forthright views.
