Paul reminds us that we are all so integrally connected that when one benefits so do others. It’s a truth that often runs counter to what our culture proclaims. In fact, the prosperity and civic freedoms we enjoy today come to us by the efforts and sacrifices of others.

Update on Food Bank Needs: Laundry detergent, canned pears and pineapple, salt, pepper, and spices, tomato producs (stewed, paste, sauce, etc.), canned pasta sauce and sloppy Joe sauce (Chef Boyardee, Manwich), cooking oil, canned chicken, canned carrots and beets. PLEASE NOTE: We are not in need of the following: Baby Food, Baby Formula, Green Beans, Corn, or Protein Beans. Fellowship Sunday is a good way to remember the Food Bank. You can bring your items to the church and place in the Food Bank basket located in the narthex.

Reminder: The Food Bank does not accept expired items, partially used or open items, home canned foods, items containing alcohol, items in dented or damaged packaging, over-the-counter medications, baby food and formula (WIC provides these items, so they are not needed and are disposed of).

We extend our thanks to all of the folks who prepared food, served food, and helped with setting up and cleaning up for the funeral meal for the family and friends of Blanche Jones. You contributed to an important mission of St. Paul.

Go Over the Edge for Interfaith Human Services and FaithCentre! Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019:  Raise $1,000, rappel 155 feet, and support Centre County families in need! Over the Edge Centre County is a rappelling event that raises money for FaithCentre and Interfaith Human Services. Last year, the event raised more than $90,000 to help Centre County neighbors feed their families and pets, heat their homes, avoid utility shutoffs, and become financially stable.

How do I sign up? Visit Give.OvertheEdge.Events/CentreCounty2019. Click on “Register.” The cost to register is $75 but it goes toward your $1,000 goal. The Pine Grove Mills Farmers Market is held every Thursday through September from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. We are in need of adult volunteers with a current driver’s license to direct traffic and sometimes document data on market visitors. St. Paul will be hosting a Rummage Sale and Bake Sale August 12-15. We will offer tables for individuals in the community at a cost of $10. Garage sale and bake sale items donated to the church will be sold in the narthex area. We will accept books, toys, puzzles and games, like- new clothing, jewelry and furniture. We are not accepting houseware items (dishes, glassware, etc.), small appliances, electronics, or office supplies. If you have questions or would like to offer help or baked goods, please contact Jill Lemke.

Church secretary Karin Lowry and Linda Rosensteel are recruiting help with scheduling worship participants. We are looking for individuals who would contact one category of volunteers for slots that haven’t been filled in on the signup sheets. For instance, one person would contact assisting ministers for open dates and another person would contact ushers for open dates. Contacts may be made in person, by phone or by email. If you can help, please contact Linda or Karin.

The St. Paul Nominating Committee is working to identify the slate for electing council members for the two-year term beginning January 2020. Nominating committee members are Delorse Homan, Eleanor Bird, Jill Lemke, Judy Wills, and Molly Schueltz. We will soon be reaching out to prospective nominees to ask that they prayerfully consider serving in this important role. If you would like to learn more or have suggestions, please contact any comittee member.

Lutheran Day at the Curve and the Great Allegheny Tailgate, Sunday July 28. Tailgate is from 4:00 – 5:00 PM at the Synod Office in Altoona. Hot dogs and drinks to be provided. Everyone is to bring a dessert to share. The game starts at 6:00 PM at the Peoples National Gas Field. Tickets for adults and children three and up are $5.50; under 2 free (a child 2 or under must sit on the lap to be eligible for a free ticket or if using a seat cost will be $5.50).
