[Jesus asked Mary Magdalene] “Whom are you looking for?” – John 20:15b

My favorite thing about worship is that I get to encounter Jesus. Of course, it is not only **me** getting to experience Jesus, as everyone in worship has an encounter with Jesus, but it is still my favorite part. Jesus is in the proclaimed Word (which can be the Scripture readings, the homily, the music, or the creeds) and Jesus is also in the Meal in the bread and the wine. On special occasions, we also experience Jesus in the rite of baptism.

When the Gospel is proclaimed and the sacraments are administered, Jesus Christ, the God of all Creation shows up. In Christ’s activity for all Creation, he shows up to be with us. He is present when the good news about him is proclaimed and he is present in, with, and under the bread and the wine.

Whom are we looking for? Often I think the answer is, “We are looking for God!” We know the answer to this yearning. We know that the event when we can most clearly experience God is in a worship service.

May God continue to be with you,
Yours in Christ, Pastor Paul+
